If you have a Google account, then you should have heard about Google profiles. In case you haven't, Google Profiles helps you to "present yourself on Google products and across the web. With your profile, you can manage the information - such as your bio, contact details, and links to other sites about you or created by you - that people see.
At a minimum, your first name, last name, and photo will be public on the Internet. You can then provide a variety of additional information about yourself in your profile. You can also enable people to contact you without displaying your contact information."
It's kinda like an about page, that flaunts you. The profile page has sections to post photos, plot your location on a google map, type in an introduction, details of occupation, employment, education and more.
Lastly, there's a "links" section, in which you can update links to your other pages like twitter, facebook, flickr and so on. This section has another utility - if you post the link to your blog, it becomes a backlink. And I don't have to tell you how important a backlink from Google can be for a blog!
